Bacon-Wrapped Mushrooms with Mozzarella – Easy Appetizer
Bacon-Wrapped Mushrooms with Mozzarella – Easy Appetizer
I’m pretty sure bacon makes almost everything taste better, and Bacon-Wrapped Mushrooms with Mozzarella are no exception! I wanted something simple but a little more exciting than the usual stuffed mushrooms, so I added garlic, thyme, and a few seasonings for extra flavor.
The mushrooms stay juicy, the mozzarella melts beautifully, and the bacon gets golden and crispy in the oven. Just a warning: if you’re making these for a party, you might want to double the batch. They tend to disappear before everyone gets a chance to try one!
So, if all that sounds good to you, read on!
Top 3 recipe tips
Nobody likes soggy bacon! Give your mushrooms a good pat with a paper towel before you start. They release quite a bit of moisture in the oven, and we want juicy mushrooms, not a swimming pool in the baking dish.
A little seasoning goes a long way. I love brushing the inside of each mushroom with olive oil, garlic, thyme, and a pinch of black pepper. Just don’t get too generous with the salt. Bacon already knows how to handle that job!
Keep an eye on that bacon. Thin slices work best because they crisp up nicely without overcooking the mushrooms. If the bacon still looks a little pale at the end, give it 2–3 minutes under the broiler. But don’t walk away! Crispy can turn into burnt surprisingly fast.

Why You Will Love This Recipe
Because bacon makes everything better! Add some juicy mushrooms and melted mozzarella, and you’ve got a combination that’s pretty hard to resist.
No kitchen skills required. Seriously, if you can stuff a mushroom and wrap bacon around it, you’re already halfway there. The oven takes care of the rest!
A little messy, but totally worth it. The mozzarella might bubble over a little while baking, but those golden, cheesy edges are honestly one of my favorite parts.
Great for any occasion. I love recipes that work just as well for a family movie night as they do for a party. And trust me, nobody’s going to complain about bacon and cheese!
You probably won’t have leftovers. I wouldn’t count on saving any for tomorrow. Around here, it’s usually a race to see who gets the last one!

What you will need

10–12 medium champignon mushrooms – Choose fresh, firm mushrooms that are roughly the same size so they cook evenly. Larger mushroom caps work best because you’ll need enough room for the mozzarella filling.
10–12 baby mozzarella balls – These little mozzarella balls fit perfectly inside the mushrooms and become wonderfully soft and melty in the oven. Drain them well before using to avoid adding extra moisture.
15–20 thin slices of bacon – The star of the show, at least if you ask any bacon lover! Thinly sliced bacon wraps around the mushrooms more easily and gets nicely browned in the oven. You may need one or two slices per mushroom, depending on their size.
1 tablespoon olive oil – Used to make a simple garlic and herb mixture for brushing the inside of the mushrooms. You don’t need much because the bacon releases its own fat while cooking.
1 garlic clove, minced – Fresh garlic adds a lovely aroma and makes the mushrooms even more flavorful. I prefer finely minced garlic so it mixes evenly with the olive oil and herbs.
½ teaspoon dried thyme – Thyme and mushrooms are such a good match! It adds a warm, earthy flavor without overpowering the mozzarella or bacon.
¼ teaspoon ground black pepper – Just enough to give the mushrooms a little extra kick without making them spicy.
½ teaspoon dried vegetable seasoning mix – A simple blend of dried vegetables adds extra flavor to the filling. Check the ingredients before adding salt, as some seasoning mixes already contain plenty.
½ teaspoon sweet paprika – Adds a mild, slightly sweet flavor and a lovely touch of color to the garlic and herb mixture. Smoked paprika works well too if you prefer a smokier taste.
Salt, to taste (optional) – I usually skip the extra salt because bacon is already quite salty. Taste your seasoning mix first, and remember that you can always add a little salt later!
Tips for the Best Bacon-Wrapped Mushrooms with Mozzarella
Serve warm. Let the mushrooms rest for 2–3 minutes after baking, then enjoy while the mozzarella is still soft and melty.
Choose medium or large mushrooms. Pick firm mushrooms with enough space for the mozzarella. Try to keep them similar in size so they bake evenly.
Dry the mushrooms well. Pat them with paper towels before seasoning. Less moisture means better results and crispier bacon.
Season the inside. Brush each mushroom cap with olive oil, garlic, thyme, black pepper, and dried vegetable seasoning before adding the cheese.
Drain the mozzarella. Pat the mozzarella balls dry before stuffing to prevent excess liquid during baking.
Use thin bacon slices. They wrap more easily and crisp up faster without overcooking the mushrooms.
Don’t overcrowd the tray. Leave a little space between the mushrooms so the bacon browns evenly.
Finish under the broiler. If the bacon needs extra crispiness, broil for 2–3 minutes, watching closely to prevent burning.
How to make Bacon-Wrapped Mushrooms with Mozzarella – Easy Appetizer

Season the Mushrooms
Prepare the mushrooms. Gently clean the mushrooms, pat them dry, and remove the stems. Set the mushroom caps aside and save the stems for another recipe.
Make the seasoning mixture. In a small bowl, combine olive oil, minced garlic, dried thyme, black pepper, sweet paprika, and dried vegetable seasoning. Stir well.
Arrange the mushrooms. Place the mushroom caps on a cutting board with the hollow sides facing up, ready for seasoning.
Brush with seasoning. Using a pastry brush, coat the inside of each mushroom cap with the garlic and herb mixture, making sure the seasoning is evenly distributed.

Stuff and Wrap the Mushrooms
Prepare the bacon. Lay two slices of bacon in a cross shape on a cutting board. Place a seasoned mushroom cap in the center, with the hollow side facing up.
Add the mozzarella. Place one or two baby mozzarella balls inside the mushroom, depending on its size.
Wrap the mushroom. Fold the bacon slices over the mushroom, covering the mozzarella and securing the filling inside.
Get ready to bake. Arrange the bacon-wrapped mushrooms on a cutting board or baking tray. Transfer them to a parchment-lined baking dish, leaving a little space between each one.

Bake the Bacon – Wrapped Mushrooms
Preheat the oven. Set the oven to 200°C (400°F), or 190°C (375°F) with a fan.
Prepare the baking tray. Line a baking dish with parchment paper and arrange the bacon-wrapped mushrooms in a single layer, leaving some space between them.
Bake until golden. Place the tray in the oven and bake for 20–25 minutes, until the mushrooms are tender, the mozzarella has melted, and the bacon is cooked through.
Make the bacon crispy. If needed, switch to the grill setting for another 2–3 minutes to give the bacon a golden, crispy finish. Keep a close eye on it to prevent burning.
Ready to Serve
Your Bacon-Wrapped Mushrooms with Mozzarella are ready! Let them cool for 2–3 minutes before serving. Trust me, melted mozzarella straight from the oven is no joke!
I love serving these little bites while they’re still warm, with the bacon nicely browned and the cheese soft and gooey inside. They’re perfect as a party appetizer, game-day snack, or easy starter for a family dinner.
You can serve them on their own or pair them with a simple garlic yogurt dip, ranch dressing, or a fresh green salad. And don’t forget a few napkins. Things can get a little messy when bacon and melted cheese are involved!

Got leftovers? Store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 – 4 days. Reheat in the oven or air fryer until hot throughout to help the bacon crisp up again.

Variations & Substitutions
One of my favorite things about Bacon-Wrapped Mushrooms with Mozzarella is how easy they are to customize. Missing an ingredient or just feeling creative? Here are a few simple ideas!
Make a vegetarian version. Skip the bacon and sprinkle some grated Parmesan over the mozzarella before baking. You’ll still get delicious, cheesy stuffed mushrooms!
Try a different cheese. Mozzarella melts beautifully, but cheddar, Gouda, or cream cheese work just as well. Cream cheese makes the filling extra creamy!
Add a little heat. Sprinkle some chili flakes or cayenne pepper into the garlic and herb mixture if you enjoy a spicy kick.
Switch up the mushrooms. White button mushrooms and cremini mushrooms both work well. Just choose ones large enough to hold the cheese.
Use different herbs. No thyme? Try oregano, rosemary, or Italian seasoning. Fresh parsley is also lovely sprinkled over the mushrooms after baking.
Make them extra garlicky. If you’re a garlic lover like me, add another small clove to the olive oil mixture. Just don’t blame me if everyone asks what smells so good!
Try prosciutto instead of bacon. It gives the mushrooms a slightly different flavor and a thinner, crispier wrapping. Keep an eye on the oven, as prosciutto can brown quickly.
Save it for your next busy weeknight, and enjoy a homemade meal that’s both simple and satisfying. ??
