Ingredients

Meat Sauce

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion diced
  • 2 –3 garlic cloves minced
  • 2 cups tomato sauce
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Ricotta Layer

  • 1 cup ricotta cheese
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • Pinch of salt

Assembly

  • 9 –12 lasagna sheets
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

Instructions

  • Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the diced onion and cook for about 2 minutes until softened. Add the garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  • Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until fully browned.
  • Season the meat with oregano, basil, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Stir well.
  • Add the tomato paste and tomato sauce. Reduce the heat and simmer for about 10 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.
  • In a bowl, mix the ricotta cheese, Parmesan, egg, and a pinch of salt until smooth.
  • Preheat the oven to 180°C / 350°F.
  • Spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom of a baking dish. Add a layer of lasagna sheets, followed by ricotta mixture and meat sauce.
  • Repeat the layers until all ingredients are used, finishing with meat sauce on top.
  • Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella evenly over the lasagna.
  • Cover the dish tightly with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
  • Remove the foil and bake for another 15–20 minutes, until the cheese is melted and lightly golden.
  • Remove from the oven and let the lasagna rest for 10–15 minutes before slicing and serving.
